Diabetes is the leading cause of adult blindness, end-stage kidney disease, and amputations of the foot or leg, and puts people at increased risk of heart disease and stroke. Death rates are twice as high among middle-aged people with diabetes as among middle-aged people without diabetes.

Public awareness about the seriousness of diabetes needs to be increased. The Fayette County Diabetes Coalition organized to design ways to improve the treatment and outcomes for people with diabetes, to promote early diagnosis, and ultimately, to prevent the onset of diabetes.

We are confident that our involvement will make a difference among people with diabetes and their families.
